Report a sighting and help contribute to science.
Citizen science has an important part to play in our studies and we welcome your sightings, especially of birds that may be breeding. We are interested particularly in Hobby and Goshawk and please report these confidentially via our website for their protection as these birds are specially protected under law. Note all our work is carried out under licence and all sightings, especially of breeding birds or nests, will be treated with confidence.
Report a colour ring sighting.
As part of our work we fit a specialist coloured ring that is easily recognisable from a distance. Observers in the field such as photographers and bird watchers can feed back these sightings to us, giving valuable data points for specific individuals. These notably fast flying birds are notoriously hard to study and all assistance is gratefully received! Please fill out form below, we’ll be in touch soon.
Our Hobby colour rings in Dorset are White with a combination of two letters reading up the ring from the foot. Hobbies are also colour ringed in other parts of the UK with different colours and may pass through so all sightings are welcome. Once we have received your form we will reply as soon as possible with information on where and when the bird was ringed.
